The first Sundown On Depot show was organized by a group of friends from Greeneville, Tennessee who shared a passion for cars and wanted to support a good cause. Holston Home for Children was chosen for the charity recipient. On a rainy day in May 2016, all types of vehicles lined West Depot Street. The movie, American Graffiti, was shown in the Capitol Theatre to coincide with the event. Due to the weather, the turnout was modest, but the group was not discouraged. They pledged to make Sundown On Depot bigger and better for the next year.

The Show Catches On

For the 2nd Annual Sundown on Depot in 2017, there was gorgeous weather. Over 140 vehicles lined West Depot and Irish Streets in Greeneville. The show was successful in 2018 and 2019, as well. In 2019, the group was pleased to donate $4,000 to Holston Home for Children from their 4th Annual show. The show had become quite popular throughout the region.

A Wrench Thrown in the Plans

In 2020, the group was planning their biggest show yet when COVID-19 began to take hold across the country. The Greene County Partnership canceled their annual Iris Festival, which coincides with Sundown On Depot each year. The fate of Sundown On Depot for 2020 was uncertain. Organizers decided to postpone the event until August. This would be the first time the event would not be held in May. It would also be the first time the show would be held on Main Street instead of West Depot. New cash awards, such as Long Distance and Hard Luck, were added, as well as five Cool Pick awards. 350 vehicles attended the modified event!

In 2021, the 6th Annual show welcomed over 500 vehicles! It also saw the addition of the Kids' Pick Award, designed and made by Jack Lane. The Long Distance Award went to a Chevy Truck and its owner for traveling 323 miles from Lima, Ohio.

The largest show, by far, was in 2022. Over 600 vehicles lined Main Street from Tusculum Boulevard to McKee Street. The donation to Holston Home in 2022 was an impressive $13,000. Not bad at all for a group of friends from a small Tennessee town!

Sundown On Depot on May 18, 2024 might break previous records. We hope you'll attend to find out!
